Value engineering

At Bakkala, we always seek to offer the best product to our clients. In that respect, we see Value Engineering as a very important service, which begins with obtaining a thorough understanding of Client values, and the value systems of the project stakeholders.  The value systems provide a context for establishing value objectives that can be agreed with Client as a basis for design optimization.  The interplay between form and function in the design provides the medium for realizing the Client’s value objectives.  We review designs from every perspective of Client and stakeholder value systems, and from the perspective of every engineering discipline to determine where added value can be realized for the Client. With these kinds of projects we work with a multidisciplinary team of specialists, that we can assemble and manage for you.
Particularly in the area of high rise engineering, value engineering can be a very interesting tool for obtaining the scaled economies inherently achievable in the high rise form. The essential functionalities of structure, fire safety and vertical transportation provide a basic context in which to maximize useable floor area within quantified transportation, fire safety, and structural performance objectives.  By including disciplines such as M&E and façade engineering in the brief we have further scope for design quality enhancement in response to occupant comfort and external expression of the building.  All of these systems can be re-formed and tuned to respond to Client value objectives, capital budgets, and operational cost considerations.  At present, we are working on the Value Engineering of the Warsaw Spire (the tallest office building in Poland), where extra value is created by optimizing all engineering systems of the tower core, floors and facades to achieve the Client objectives including an Excellent BREEAM rating.
